Overview and Mission of the Pinehills Neighborhood Association

Overview:

Pinehills is a community located in the hilly southern portion of Thomson, Georgia, which is the county seat for McDuffie County. Thomson is located in an area known as the CSRA, or Central Savannah River Area, which encompasses the middle extreme eastern area of Georgia and the Middle extreme western area of South Carolina and is divided by the Savannah River. Pinehills gets its name from the rolling hills predominantly filled with pine trees but also containing various hardwoods including oaks, sweetgums, and many other indigenous species which grace the yards and neighborhood as a whole.

The majority of the Pinehills subdivision was built in the 1960's by the Knox Homes Corporation of Thomson, GA and contains many of the Knox Homes Ranch style homes that have become famous in the South.

The Association consists of Elected Officers, an Executive Council which serves an advisory role, and the general membership.

Over the last 3 years since the Association elected Michael Street resident Mitch Sivas as President, the Association has undergone enormous and solidifying changes making the Pinehills Neighborhood Association an energetic new power in the city that has members attending judicial court sessions, city and county council meetings, planning board meetings, and one-on-one meetings with members of the city and county government resulting in renewed focus on the needs of the residents of Pinehills.

Mission:

The mission of the Pinehills Neighborhood Association is to improve the overall quality of life in the Pinehills Neighborhood area, and to support the common good of its members and residents.

Goals and Purposes:

We will serve as advocates for our neighborhood and seek resources for the improvement of Pinehills. We are in existence to promote progress in Pinehills, and nothing less will do!

We will seek to improve property values in our neighborhood, and make Pinehills one of the most desirable places to live in Thomson.

We will promote long term residency, encourage neighborhood renovation and preservation of our homes, and combat community deterioration.

We will promote volunteer activism, and build community by joining neighbors together in a common cause to contribute to the safety, security and beauty of our community.

We will promote properly managed growth and desirable development within and adjacent to the Neighborhood Association boundaries.

We will provide a forum to identify, discuss and resolve neighborhood issues.

We will educate our neighbors on issues, public processes, city services, and elections.

We will identify and advocate the Neighborhood Association’s position on issues such as development, land use, zoning, transportation, public safety, and social services.

We will, in coordination with the Thomson Police Department and the City Government, promote crime prevention, and seek improvements in blighted areas

We will ensure that neighborhood views and opinions are given proper weight in the planning and decision processes of our city, county and other governmental entities.

We will serve as a communication conduit between the Residents of Pinehills and the City of Thomson, representing our members and communicating their desires to our elected and appointed officials in a way that encourages accountability and achieves results .

Our ultimate goal is to contribute to the overall improvement of the Thomson community at large, as we believe that we all live together in this community and are ultimately one big family. We will all rise together, or fall together. We desire to rise!
